BSAWP Award Nominations - Due May 1
CRITERIA FOR AWARD NOMINATION STATEMENT
- Any professional organization, community organization, church, or individual may submit a nomination.
- Submission of a BSAWP nomination form detailing why you are nominating the candidate.
- Give specific examples for each applicable category.
- Deadline for all nominations is May 1, 2024.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
A nominee should be one who:
- Demonstrated excellence, accomplishments, and leadership in their school, church, or community
- Served as a mentor/role-model or helped others to achieve in some way
- Served as an inspiration to others
- Demonstrated a commitment to social responsibility
AWARD CATEGORIES
Buffalo Soldiers Cadet Leadership Award
Presented to a West Point cadet who demonstrates leadership ability and grit in the school and community. For this person, passion and perseverance meets to predict success. The cadet must be committed to leading, teaching and mentoring new cadets. The cadet must also exhibit a growth mindset and resiliency.
SFC Leon Tatum Buffalo Soldiers Award
In honor of Sergeant First Class Leon Tatum, this award is presented to an active duty Noncommissioned Officer who demonstrates good character and leadership qualities. Selections are made in collaboration with local Army Units on West Point.
SGT Sanders H. Matthews Veteran Award
Recognizes a veteran who has successfully made the transition from active duty to civilian status. The nominee has not only significantly contributed to their comrades in arms, but upon transitioning to civilian status, this individual continues to assist other veterans in their transition.
SGT Sanders H. Matthews Community Award
Recognizes public servants in the community who have preserved the legacy of Buffalo Soldiers to exceed the standard of excellence in public service. America's public servants provide essential services to our communities and economy. They are educators, first responders and health-care workers, military personnel, local, state and federal government employees, and nonprofit workers.
Cora L. Matthews Award
Recognizes individuals who exhibit selflessness to their families, their communities and to society. In Orange County, New York, September 10th is recognized as the Cora L. Matthews Day of Service. Cora L. Matthews left a legacy of sacrifice and service.This day is set aside as a call to action to serve others and the community.
U.N. Focused – Support and Peace Award
Recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of human rights. The recognition sends a clear message to human rights defenders all over the world that the international community is grateful for, and supports their efforts to promote human rights for all.
Operation Impact Award
Recognizes individual(s) who work to serve and improve the quality of life for students, families, and veterans in the areas of education, mental health, and transition services.
